The mother of former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, a staunch anti-abortion advocate, has been selected as the keynote speaker at the annual March for Life dinner, the organization has announced.
“We are delighted that Pam Tebow, an influential force in the pro-life community, will be speaking at our 36th annual Rose Dinner this year,” March for Life’s President Jeanne Mancini said in a statement. “Pam is a powerful example of how love saves lives and how one woman’s pro-life message can change the hearts and minds of the masses.”
The event will be held Jan. 19 in Washington.
The athlete’s mom shot into the public eye in an appearance in a controversial Super Bowl commercial in 2010.
In the ad, purchased by the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family, she tells how she rejected medical advice to abort her difficult fifth pregnancy and instead gave birth to her son Tim.
Tim Tebow went on to win the 2007 Heisman Trophy and play in the NFL, where he was known for bending on one knee to pray in the end zone.
In a separate interview at the time, she and her missionary husband tell the full story of their decision.
